Gilding

To create the perfect gilded finish, anything up to 8 layers of gesso are applied to each frame and sanded before a clay base is painted on as a ground for receiving the gold leaf.

Sourcing only the finest in Italian gold and silver leaf, we use the water gilding method which is burnished or polished by hand using an agate tool.

​

 

With parts of a frame gilded and other parts painted, the options are endless. As opposed to being presented with a set range of coloured frames, our frames are created for individual pictures.
